Toby Litt's second novel Corpsing (), is, from Muriel Spark's point of view, "a first-rate thriller". However, while reading the book one discovers an overloaded novel that seems to want to struggle to be a thriller. Thus it is interesting to discuss Corpsing as a thriller. The characteristic of the thriller genre fits well to the book. corpsing and social death The word “corpsing” (verb) signifies a blunder occurring when, in accordance with the performance of a role, an actor is “put out” of his part. A role that is corpsed is one that exposes the limits of performance and, depending on the metaphor, denotes the “death” of theater, as by: 1.

Corpsing was a book I picked up on a whim, and a book that made me wish I hadn't even bothered. The book is written in first person, and competent, but despite the supposedly tense premise, it never feels like anything is at stake within the novel/5. Corpsing is sexy, full of twists and wickedly funny.

Litt will have you racing through the book to discover who murdered Lily, and why. Along the way, you will learn everything you didn't want to know about the European self loading Pistol, and how the human body is made of fifty-five jellyfish, all piled on top of each other, waiting to /5(3).

Corpsing blends comedy and horror Corpsing book effectively, which results in an entertaining collection where a story is as likely to raise a laugh as a scream. Bitey Bachman kicks things off in familiar territory with a tongue-in-cheek take on the zombie apocalypse followed by the brief but bloodily funny Bits and Bobs/5(10).

I’ve read a few horror collections lately and this was the most consistent and enjoyable. The stories are relatively gentle, often comic, and. Corpsing is not among the very finest books I have read, therefore, but the balance between literary novel and thriller is very good and whichever of these it is approached as, it is a hugely enjoyable book.
